Healing from Cancer

Cancer is a mysterious and much-feared disease,

best healed by creating balance between the three dimensions of existence: the physical, psychological and spiritual. Cancer is a jolt on our normal perspective of life. To successfully heal from it, it is essential to learn from it and examine its presence in the physical body. What part of the self needs the most nourishment in this catastrophe? What is the cancer telling us to change? What can we create that will counteract the presence of cancer? Holism in cancer care gives us more tools for healing than standard cancer treatment.

Cancer make us feel that we have fallen from grace.

We ask, “Why me?” and “Why now?” and “How?” The nagging fear of recurrence lurks under every thought and action. Yet if we see the crisis as a change-agent, cancer can herald a new perspective on life, often deeper and more contemplative. Additionally, we might develop new insights about ways we have existed in the past that were not healthy or healing. Our illness can become a positive force.

A cancer diagnosis is an opportunity to take charge of our psychological and spiritual health.

When we feel that we have no control over what is happening to our physical health, a holistic perspective on healing helps us respond to challenges by encouraging a variety of perspectives. For example, after a period of initial panic and sense that life is over when we receive a diagnosis of cancer or metastasis, we can calm ourselves through spiritual practice or psychological reflection—and there are many to try out if you don’t have traditional ones. These tools help us examine what cancer might signal in our lives. Inner and outer healing become the same goal.

Kindness and empathy for yourself and others rise to the surface

When the three dimensions of life receive equal attention, With a sense of support, inner and outer, the person experiencing cancer may overcome fear and create a new life.
